The Dark TowerThe Dark Tower is Stephen King's self-proclaimed tour-de-force masterpiece. Fans of the books have looked forward to a movie version of the series for years. It seems like soon they'll be getting their wish, as Ron Howard is now attached to the project. And it even looks like the project will happen in multiple media, including motion pictures and television. The purpose of this page is to provide current information and news about The Dark Tower movies. Here's what we know so far:
On October 29, 2010, Universal Studios issued a press release that stated the first movie would be released May 17, 2013. Ron Howard is attached as the director, and Akiva Goldsman is attached as the writer. Earlier RumorsRumors and discussions of a film version of the series are nothing new. In 2007, the rumor mill was reporting that JJ Abrams (of Lost and Star Trek fame) was attached to the project. And in 2009, Damen Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, the two primary writers of Lost, said in an interview that they were attached to the project too. All three indicated in later interviews that the idea of spending so many years on another project after spending so much time on Lost was not something they wanted to do. They were also intimidated by the scope of the project, and afraid of screwing up a series that they were such big fans of. It seems as if that's when Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman became the new show-runners.
